Elys Style Expert and Personal Stylist, Helen, shares the key trends for Spring / Summer 2022 direct from #TheElysEdit runway.

Say hello to Spring / Summer and the key fashion trends with which to update your wardrobe, because after the success of #TheElysEdit Spring / Summer fashion show I bring you the must-wear looks straight from the runway with tips on how to style them. Be inspired by full-spectrum colour, sustainable denim, spring layers and on-trend stylish outfits for all your upcoming events. It’s time to dress up!

Helen wears: Dress, Ted Baker; Belt, Hobbs.

There is nothing quite like a big, bold splash of colour to kickstart the new season in style so now is the time to up your dopamine levels by introducing punchy brights to your wardrobe.

Take a bright printed piece and don’t be afraid to pair it with block colour for a fun summer look and if in doubt, finish the outfit with gold and straw accessories to pull it all together.

Dene wears: Sweater, French Connection; Trousers, Weekend MaxMara; Bag and shoes, both LK Bennett
Duncan wears: Shirt and t-shirt, both Folk; Jeans, Diesel; Shoes, Dune

Colour for men can be harder as there aren’t always as many options available but the menswear collections at Elys have him covered this season. Try contrasting prints in the same tone to add interest to an outfit.

The skirt suit was a big hit on the runway as seen at Chanel, Moschino and Dior to name a few. Get the catwalk look with bouclé texture on short jackets and mini-length skirts at Forever New (pictured) and LK Bennett. Wear yours with slingback loafers and a small shoulder bag to accessorise.

Mia wears: Blazer and skirt, Forever New; Bag, Michael Kors; Shoes, Dune
Stephen wears: Blazer, knitted polo and trousers, all Reiss

For men, a lighter-toned suit in a micro check lends itself to warm weather styling. The fawn and cream tones in Reiss’ suit are a great alternative to greys and blue and work well with brown leather shoes to smarten up or box-fresh white trainers to dress-down.

Did it ever really go away? Whatever the answer, it’s a Stylist’s staple which went big on the SS22 runways so now is the time to update yours or invest for the first time. You are spoilt for choice with AllSaints’ variety of colours from white to black and muted tones in between.

Betsie wears: Leather jacket, dress and bag, all AllSaints; shoes, Dune

As a wardrobe staple, denim will never leave our wardrobes but with sustainability at the forefront of our minds the focus shifts to eco-aware brands. Aligne’s jeans are mindfully made with 50% less water and offer fashion forward denim shapes like this straight leg jeans style. The crisp denim lends itself well to dressing up or down.

Betsie wears: Denim shirt, Michael Kors; Black jeans, Aligne; Bag, AllSaints; Sandals, Dune
Abigail wears: Blouse, Y.A.S.; Sweater vest, Albaray; Cream jeans, Aligne; Trainers, Ted Baker

The 1990’s called and they want their trousers back. Well they’ll have to wait, because cargo pants have returned for men and women this season. Look for cuffed hems, dark neutrals and all the pockets then style with soft pastels (men) and a biker and heels (women).

Duncan wears: Gilet, Reiss; Sweatshirt, Colorful Standard; Cargo pants, Boss
Poppy wears: Leather jacket, AllSaints; Cargo pants, NRBY; Sandals, Mango

For men, the classic bomber jacket is given an upgrade in fine pastel-toned suede at Reiss. Style tonally in shades of blue for a smart daytime look. Meanwhile in womenswear the must-have quilted jackets of last season are updated for spring weather in printed quilted cotton. Pair with a ruffled mini and boots for an Isabel Marant vibe.

Stephen wears: Suede jacket, trousers and trainers, all Reiss; Shirt, Ted Baker
Betsie wears: Quilted jacket, Object; Skirt, Ted Baker; Bag and boots, both AllSaints

When in SW19 it’s only right to feature a look fit for The Championships this summer. This ensemble ticks all the boxes with Wimbledon whites, grass-green trousers - a key colour this season - along with smart trainers for comfort and the only bag that would be appropriate: Kate Spade’s tennis ball. Wear cross-body to eat strawberries and sip champagne with ease.

Poppy wears: Blazer and top, Reiss; Trousers, Forever New, Bag, Kate Spade; Trainers, Mango

Chunky trainers are stepping up this season as the go-to shape and with Spanish brand Hoff now in-store you’re covered with colour combinations for every mood and the bouncy insole ensures that comfort is never sacrificed for style.

Pair the neon style with a block colour sweatshirt and joggers or give bootcut jeans a 2022 update with the neutral colourway.

Poppy wears: Sweater, French Connection; Sleeveless jacket, Emme Marella; Trainers, Hoff
Betsie wears: Sweatshirt, Mint Velvet, Joggers, French Connection; Trainers, Hoff

Accept all the invitations this year and take your pick from the special occasion looks on offer. Try a floral playsuit for versatility paired with heels for a wedding or flats for a garden party or look for LK Bennett’s daisy print dresses with a vintage feel and coordinate with matching shoes and bag for a polished look.

Mia wears: Playsuit, Reiss, Bag, Kate Spade; Sandals, Carvela
Abigail wears: Dress, bag and shoes, all LK Bennett

If tailoring is more your vibe, try separates with a printed trouser and plain blazer as an alternative wedding guest outfit, while for men a light blue suit gives a summery feel. Keep it tonal with navy shoes and similar tones in the tie to finish.

Betsie wears: Blazer, Aligne; Trousers, Weekend MaxMara; Bag, Coach; Shoes, LK Bennett
Duncan wears: Suit, Moss Bros; Shoes, Dune
