Summer Staycation Style
We may not be packing for our usual holiday to the continent or beyond this year, so dressing for the infamous Great British weather may feel unusual, perhaps a little daunting? My ultimate U.K mini-break capsule wardrobe guide is designed to take the stress out of staycation style, and with just 30-pieces will create a myriad of complete outfits to suit wherever you’re heading this summer.
The key to clever packing lies in light layering with classic neutrals and added pops of colour. A dash of fashion is a must, yet heavily laden with practical pieces which enable you to mix and match for cost efficient outfits in unpredictable, fluctuating temperatures. I’m thinking light denim, comfy linen trousers, structured shorts, pretty (block coloured) t-shirts for versatility, featherweight non-crease skirts and dresses, plus snug sweaters, statement shades and wide-brimmed hats. All topped off with sensible yet stylish footwear.
Accessory wise, supersized rattan bags are a spring / summer ’20 staple that work just as well in the city as they do by the coast. If you’re after something more robust, practical rucksacks are still trending this season and you’ll find styles of varying sizes and shades in Fashion Accessories on the Ground Floor in-store. Whilst you’re there, check out the collection of sunglasses, hats, headbands and scarves – I love to incorporate these to complete a look and inject some extra personality.
There are some clear fashion winners in-store right now; which will effortlessly take you from ‘brunch to beach’ or ‘coffee to country stroll’. Naturally, the changeable U.K weather asserts its dominance onto your packing strategy, so, come rain or shine, here are my top essentials for easy-breezy to style up your summer staycation.
Charlotte’s Summer Staycation Wardrobe
Having covered every square foot of Elys’ Fashion, Footwear and Accessorises departments, my top staycation style finds for quality, multi-functionality and return on investment in-store this month are from Levi’s, Max Mara, Ralph Lauren, Reiss, Sahara and Whistles. Dune and Kurt Geiger were certainly footwear favourites and eyewear styles I fell in love with were from fashion heroes Tom Ford and Gucci via the Sunglass Hut. For comfortable walking shoes that do not compromise on style I highly recommend Fit Flop and Sketchers.
Charlotte’s Staycation Styling Inspiration
Nora linen jumpsuit, Whistles, £95
Lottie round straw fringe tote, Whistles, £59
Barbour seaboard hat, £34.95
Black sunglasses, Tom Ford, at Sunglass Hut, £290
Eagle sneakers, Kurt Geiger, £125
Charlotte’s Style Tip…
Choose linen trousers, like this Whistles jumpsuit, for their breathable, airy quality, as well as their hardwearing practical benefits. Linen helps the heat to escape and can keep you cosy if the temperature drops.
To maximise the wear of trousers to suit your choice of footwear, always choose comfy ankle grazers or cropped lengths for guaranteed versatility, making them super-easy to pair with either sneakers or sandals.

Charlotte’s Style Tip…
Wide brimmed, lightweight hats add a touch of glamour to your outfit, but have the added bonus of shielding from the sun’s glare or sheltering from a downpour. Opt for neutral tones so they compliment all outfits and buy affordable ‘travel friendly’ ones that fold up into your rattan bag.
Trench, Ralph Lauren, £150; Lace white blouse, Levi’s, £50; Navy Lyla twill shorts, Reiss, £95; Gucci sunglasses, Sunglass Hut, £320; Beth basket, Pia Rossini, £45; Chelsea mule, Kurt Geiger, £140
Sweaters are the ideal piece for a pop of colour in your capsule wardrobe to brighten up your neutrals. I suggest packing three warm, lightweight sweaters in different shades for layering: throw over shoulders or snuggle into them on cooler evenings.
Linen navy crop bubble pants, Sahara, £119
Red logo sweatshirt, Whistles, £70
White Tobago hat, Pia Rossini, £25
White sandal, Head Over Heels by Dune, £38
